What You Resist Persists

Resistance may come up when we make a decision to change. Who am I kidding? It absolutely will come
up! The conscious part of our mind digs its heels in and says "Hell No, we won't go." This part of our mind says "How dare you make a change and infringe on my lifestyle?" In fact the conscious part of our mind can get pretty abusive.

Recently, I gathered together some of my very wonderful friends and family members (they will be reading this article) to participate as a test-group for a 6-week program I have developed that is called the "The Love Your Body Project." I plan to offer it to the public when the 6 weeks is up. Instead of focusing on weight loss in particular, this program focuses on taking a fast from negative judgments about ourselves and our bodies. On the evening we gathered together-no one really knew what was up. They just hoped to lose some extra poundage. By the looks on their faces they were probably thinking "God knows what Tash has got in store for us tonight." Then I gave out the homework assignment. Sheer Panic crept over everyone's faces. The assignment was to write down all the criticisms and negative judgments that we have about ourselves in a little notebook.

We all want our problems to vanish magically, but we are unwilling to take the steps in doing the work along the way. I said to my lovelies: "You can always go back to your old ways after the 6 weeks is up." A lot of fear comes up and this is just a form of resistance. And that's ok--it is perfectly natural. We must give ourselves permission to have those fears but at the same time move through the fear without judgment. Sometimes, it is not the fear itself but how we react to that fear. Luckily, the last half of the class was a group hypnosis session where deep relaxation of the conscious mind takes place thereby allowing the resistance to be released. Hypnosis is where we can begin to let go of the need to hold onto the resistance to changing our patterns. It works!
